Ducks Lose Selanne, Game in Dallas

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Game Recaps, Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Ducks were firmly in control of tonight’s game until they caught a bad break…or two. The first bad break came when Teemu Selanne literally broke his hand on a blocked shot.  The second break, this one figurative, came when a puck bounced off the skate of James Wisniewski and past J.S. Giguere, giving the Stars the momentum they needed to eventually win the game.
The Ducks actually started the game very well, scoring one minute and 28 seconds into the game on a nice passing play. Selanne centered the puck to a streaking Ryan Whitney who came all the way down to the crease [...]

Ducks Acquire Kyle Chipchura, Make Roster Moves

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Ducks have traded a 2011 fourth-round pick to the Montreal Canadiens for forward Kyle Chipchura. Chipchura has been pretty useless this year, scoring no points and accumulating a -10 rating in 19 games for the Canadiens.
There are good things and bad things about this guy. The bad is abundantly obvious with his statistics. He actually was benched after playing just two minutes of the last game, and in those two minutes he managed to earn a -2 rating. He isn’t a great skater and he doesn’t have the best hands.
But this is a guy who was the Captain for [...]

Kings Edge Ducks 4-3

Randy Carlyle is crazy.
First of all, it was obvious the Ducks did not play their best hockey tonight and it showed in many ways as the Kings held on to their lead for a 4-3 win at Honda Center. The Kings were able to withstand a flurry of Ducks scoring chances at the end to finish on top and take the important divisional win.
Things did not go well for the Ducks starting almost immediately in the first period. Evgeny Artyukhin took a minor penalty just over a minute into the game to put the Ducks shorthanded, something that happened two [...]

Ducks Finish Homestand Against Kings Tonight

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

There’s really not much that needs to be said about tonight’s game. Ducks fans know the Kings and Kings fans know the Ducks; there’s really not much mystery when the opposing team is an hour or two away.
But in case you’ve missed it, here’s the basic rundown: The Kings are off to an amazing start this season led by the play of Anze Kopitar, who is becoming a superstar in the league. Kopitar was leading the league in scoring for much of the season and is only three points away from the top coming into tonight’s game. Part of Kopitar’s [...]

Ducks Downed in Overtime, 3-2

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Game Recaps, Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ilya Bryzgalov again got the best of his former team, defeating the Ducks in overtime 3-2. He made several big saves  in the first period to keep the Coyotes in the game and it eventually paid off as Jim Vandermeer scored his second of the game to win it in overtime.
The Ducks got the scoring started in the second period on yet another power play goal. Teemu Selanne passed the puck to Ryan Getzlaf in the offensive zone, and Getzlaf made a nice wrist shot for his fifth goal of the season. Scott Niedermayer had the secondary assist on the play.
The Ducks maintained [...]

Ducks Dominant in Win Over Blackhawks

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Game Recaps, Regular Season | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Ducks played their best game of the year tonight and were finally rewarded for it, shutting out the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 for their third win in a row. The Ducks scored all three goals on the power play and J.S. Giguere made a few outstanding saves to help lead the Ducks to the win at Honda Center this afternoon.
The first ten minutes of the first period saw both teams play extremely sloppily with numerous neutral zone turnovers and missed passes. This was probably a result of both coaches trying to match lines to try to get an edge, but the players finally [...]

Ducks Play Host to Blackhawks Today

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

Happy Thanksgiving!
There are three things to be done now that everyone has stuffed themselves full of turkey: 1) Figure out what to do with the rest of the turkey; 2) Spend a ridiculous amount of money buying things you don’t need because they’re cheap on Black Friday; and 3) Watch the Ducks game, which starts at 1pm.
That’s right…the Ducks will be playing an afternoon game on Black Friday. Be sure to get all your shopping done by the afternoon because puck drop will be shortly after 1pm today.
The Ducks have a very stiff challenge awaiting them this afternoon. The Chicago [...]
