Ducks Downed in Overtime, 3-2

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Game Recaps, Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ilya Bryzgalov again got the best of his former team, defeating the Ducks in overtime 3-2. He made several big saves  in the first period to keep the Coyotes in the game and it eventually paid off as Jim Vandermeer scored his second of the game to win it in overtime.
The Ducks got the scoring started in the second period on yet another power play goal. Teemu Selanne passed the puck to Ryan Getzlaf in the offensive zone, and Getzlaf made a nice wrist shot for his fifth goal of the season. Scott Niedermayer had the secondary assist on the play.
The Ducks maintained [...]

Ducks Dominant in Win Over Blackhawks

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Game Recaps, Regular Season | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Ducks played their best game of the year tonight and were finally rewarded for it, shutting out the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 for their third win in a row. The Ducks scored all three goals on the power play and J.S. Giguere made a few outstanding saves to help lead the Ducks to the win at Honda Center this afternoon.
The first ten minutes of the first period saw both teams play extremely sloppily with numerous neutral zone turnovers and missed passes. This was probably a result of both coaches trying to match lines to try to get an edge, but the players finally [...]

Ducks Play Host to Blackhawks Today

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

Happy Thanksgiving!
There are three things to be done now that everyone has stuffed themselves full of turkey: 1) Figure out what to do with the rest of the turkey; 2) Spend a ridiculous amount of money buying things you don’t need because they’re cheap on Black Friday; and 3) Watch the Ducks game, which starts at 1pm.
That’s right…the Ducks will be playing an afternoon game on Black Friday. Be sure to get all your shopping done by the afternoon because puck drop will be shortly after 1pm today.
The Ducks have a very stiff challenge awaiting them this afternoon. The Chicago [...]

From NHL.com and the Associated Press:
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -Jean-Sebastien Giguere is rounding into his old form, something the Anaheim Ducks need to have happen if they expect to turn their inconsistent season around.
Giguere made 27 saves, Petteri Nokelainen scored the go-ahead goal with 7:17 left, and the Ducks beat Carolina 3-2 on Wednesday night to extend the Hurricanes’ road losing streak to a franchise-record 12 games to start the season. Teemu Selanne had a goal and an assist to help fuel Anaheim’s 300th regular-season home victory.
“I mentioned last week that this team would turn around with goaltending, and that Jonas [...]

Ducks Win in Shootout, 3-2

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Game Recaps, Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

The big line played big and J.S. Giguere played extremely well as the Ducks defeated the Calgary Flames in a shootout, 3-2, even after giving up the tying goal with under a minute to play.
Calgary got on the board first, converting on a first period Ducks turnover that became a breakaway for Curtis Glencross. The Ducks responded about two minutes later, scoring on a Calgary turnover behind their net. A Flames defenseman passed the puck right up the middle of the ice where Corey Perry was standing and shot the puck, and Bobby Ryan quickly picked up the rebound and [...]

From Brian Hunter at NHL.com:
FLAMES (13-6-2) at DUCKS (7-11-3)
Last 10: Calgary 6-3-1; Anaheim 3-5-2
Season series: First of four meetings this season. Anaheim won three times against Calgary last season, including 3-2 in overtime in the most recent meeting on Feb. 11. Scott Niedermayer, who owns the NHL record for OT goals by a defenseman, scored his second of the game 55 seconds into the extra period.
Big Story: It’s currently unknown how many Anaheim players are Maroon 5 fans, but the team as a whole would be wise to heed the advice of the band’s second album, “It Won’t Be Soon [...]

Sharks Defeat Ducks, 3-2

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Game Recaps, Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

Saku Koivu made his return to the Anaheim lineup, but it was not enough as the Sharks outlasted the Ducks in a very close game to take home a 3-2 victory. The teams played very evenly through the entire game and the Ducks played well, but the Sharks capitalized on chances while the Ducks missed the few they had.
The Ducks got the scoring started in the second period on a James Wisniewski slap shot. The team was on the power play and Wisniewski skated the puck into the zone, but did not have any passing options. He elected to shoot [...]
