Ducks Fans Begin Calling for Heads of Key Personnel

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Regular Season | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Ducks fans are in full panic mode. After one of the ugliest losses in recent history, some fans are more than just upset…They’re raging mad.
Most of the trash talk is centered around two people: Head Coach Randy Carlyle and defenseman Ryan Whitney. We’re only 10 games into the season and these names have been brought up multiple times by fans as they want Carlyle fired or Whitney traded. So how could the Ducks have gone from Stanley Cup Champions to struggling to earn respect in a matter of 2 years?
Well, in regards to Carlyle, maybe he was never the great coach [...]

Ducks Have Reached a New Low

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Game Recaps, Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

Losing 3-0 to the Rangers? That was pretty bad. Losing 5-0 to the Blues at home? That was just plain terrible. But losing 6-3 to the Maple Leafs? The team that hadn’t won a game all season and hadn’t earned a point since opening night of the regular season? Absolutely inexcusable.
The Ducks have reached a new low, something that is impressive considering how bad they’ve been playing recently. Already on a three-game home losing streak, the Ducks stretched their streak to four games against the worst team in the league. Well…maybe the Ducks should be considered the worst team now that Toronto has [...]

Ducks Take on Maple Leafs Tonight at Honda Center

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

The only big news to report from today is that goalie Justin Pogge has been recalled again from the ECHL to backup Jonas Hiller tonight. J.S. Giguere re-injured his groin in Saturday’s win as he gave up the game-winning goal and will most likely be out for the next few games.
Brian Burke will make his first return to the Honda Center since leaving the Ducks, and he joked that he’d have to remember which box to walk into tonight. Burke has made big changes in Toronto that have so far resulted in disaster with the team off to the worst start [...]

Ducks Will re-assign Sbisa

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

Luca Sbisa’s time in the NHL is over this season. With the Ducks off to a slow start and Sbisa’s lack of production, the coaching staff decided the young defenseman would be better suited for the Juniors or Europe rather than risk being a healthy scratch in the NHL.
Sbisa had played in all eight Ducks games until Saturday when he became a healthy scratch. He came over during the summer with Joffrey Lupul in the Chris Pronger trade and showed flashes of the defenseman everyone thinks he can become, but because of the Ducks’ slow start and the pressure placed [...]

Ducks Fall Short Again

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Game Recaps, Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Ducks played one of their better games of the season tonight, but it still wasn’t enough to get a point in the standings as Columbus defeated the Ducks by a final score of 6-4. The game was fast-paced and exciting and featured a third period comeback by the Ducks before an unconventional game-winning goal was scored that also saw goalie J.S. Giguere aggravate his groin injury on the same play.
The Ducks jumped to a quick lead with a first period goal by Joffrey Lupul. Ryan Getzlaf had the puck below the goal line and sent a backhand pass high in the [...]

Blue Jackets Face Ducks at Honda Center Tonight

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

Edit: Coach Randy Carlyle has decided to shake up the lineup a little bit, taking Steve Eminger out of the lineup and possibly Luca Sbisa as well. Here are what the line combinations look like right now, but keep in mind that Carlyle changed these the last game and there is never a guarantee with the coach:
FORWARDS
Joffrey Lupul     -     Ryan Getzlaf     -     Corey Perry
Bobby Ryan     -     Saku Koivu     -     Teemu Selanne
Matt Beleskey     -     Todd Marchant     -     Erik Christensen
Mike Brown     -     Petteri Nokelainen     -     George Parros
DEFENSE
Scott Niedermayer     -     Brendan Mikkelson
Ryan Whitney     -     James Wisniewski
Nick Boynton     -     Sheldon Brookbank
_
Two teams that are struggling [...]

Who’s at Fault for the Struggling Ducks?

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Ducks, Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Ducks are eight games into the season and so far it’s been a disappointing beginning. With almost 10% of the regular season over, the Ducks will look at the standings and see they are in a place that few would have predicted. They are in last place of the suddenly very competitive Pacific Division and the only team in the West with fewer points in the than the Ducks’ seven is the Minnesota Wild with four points, two of which came against the Ducks. Ouch.
So the first question is “who can we blame?” Unfortunately there is no person that can be [...]

Notes from Friday’s Practice

AUTHOR: Omar Zaman | IN: Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

There were quite a few changes at today’s Ducks practice with the shuffling of personnel that resulted from injuries and a suspension. To start, goalie Justin Pogge was sent back to the ECHL as J.S. Giguere was cleared for full practice and game action. Giguere was surprisingly on the Ducks bench in Wednesday’s game after he had left practice early they day before, and Pogge was recalled but sent back just before the start of that game. I would look for Giguere to get the start in Saturday’s game.
And if Ducks fans didn’t notice last game, and they probably didn’t since [...]
